Download JTunes here
I finally got around to finishing my iTunes Windows Service Installer which can be downloaded bellow.
JTunes Version 1.0
JTunes was created to make the job of installing and launching iTunes as a Windows Service as simple as possible. This means that iTunes will then start before anyone even logs onto the computer allowing you to play
your music as soon as your computer boots up. Once you launch JTunes you will see the main control panel from here you can install/uninstall start/stop the JTunes service.
Fields
iTunes Executable (.exe): JTunes will make a good effort to find the path to your iTunes exe file but if it cannot find it you can manually select it by clicking on the select button to the right of it.
Computer Name: This is your computer network name. if this is already filled in you don’t need to touch it.
Run iTunes as (Account): You should select your username here as JTunes needs to be logged in as you in order to access your music collection.
Account Password Type here your Windows login password again this is so JTunes service can log in as you to play your tracks (*).
Buttons
Install/Uninstall: This will install or uninstall the JTunes service not the program itself.
Start/Stop: For starting or stopping the service. One thing is when the service is running you will be unable to start iTunes as only one instance can be running at a time so if you need to access the UI you can stop the service from here and then start it again.

Edit: 27 July 2010. I have cleaned up the code and ironed out a few bugs so it should work on more platforms now.

Ah, just read the older comments and saw the note about the password being a system-level requirement. Too bad, I’ll have to think about this. Thanks, though.
It’s an amazing help for who use WHS2011 and apple devices but i found a big problem. Does not work the iTunes folder watch, which i use to put my mp3s and add automatically to the library. It needs to start the software to get it work. Hope it can be fixed, thanks a lot.
The Windows blank password issue was causing a problem for me when using Acronis Backup, and they had a solution that worked perfectly for me.

Hi there,
is there any experiance with itunes 10.5 on whs 2003 with jtunes?
With itunes 10.3 everything was fine, but with 10.5 i cannot see my library in the network?
itunes runs in the “normal” mode fine, but not as service?
Is there any possibility to check what is wrong. The service is shown as started. Reeinstallation of jtunes was fine.
Thx, Gavor
Hi there,
just wanted to report that jtunes is also not working properly with iTunes 10.5 and WHS2011.
Starting the service but nothing been seen in the network.
When iTunes is running all is fine and the share can be found on other iTunes in the network. But nor with the service running.
A solution would be great
best regards
Lutz

Great tool, nice idea to automate the run as a service – I was looking for a how to (forgot how to do it) and I found your tool.
Thanks
I can get photos and music to stream from WHS to ATV, but not video.
Is there a trick to that?
I used to have an old laptop set up as an iTunes jukebox and a Boxee Box separately. I recently combined both functions into a netbook (Boxee software + iTunes on same machine), but every time I started a song using the Remote app on my iPhone, iTunes would pop up, covering Boxee – couldn’t figure out how to stop it from doing so. This service solution worked perfectly! No problems getting it installed and using right away. Thank you! (Sending donation right now.)
Just Wonderful…
This is so wonderful….
Disabling the blank password restriction in Windows…

Is there any solution yet? thx!
